Museum Weekend

Every year the Dutch musea open their door a whole weekend. In that weekend they organize many interesting exhibitions and best fo all : it';s for free
and those are very welcome words for a Dutchman
So more than 1 million people visited in that weekend a museum somewhere.

And as true Dutchmen we also went to a museum in our neighbourhood.
Gosia was away for the whole day to a SPA and Sauna and Healthresortclub with her neighbour friend Miranda.

So Marja en I went with the kids to the Natuurmuseum in Tilburg, only a 30 min. ride by train.
It was a very nice museum where the kids could do many things and were activated to find out many things about animals.
They had fun

And moreover next to the museum was another museum about the history of writing




So we had a fun afternoon!

Weekend Stockholm

Last weekend Gosia and I were to Stockholm. Last year Gosia had won with an online game at SAS and the prize was a 3 days stay in either Oslo, Kopenhagen or Stockholm. We choose Stockholm. It took quite an effort to find someone who wanted to take care of the kids but Marja was kind enough to do it. And she did a great job!
The kids liked it and she too.

Our stay was great although a bit refreshing. Friday we left and after some delay due to storm on the airport in Amsterdam we finally arrived in a snowy white Stockholm. It was minus 2 till minus 6 that day. BRRR. But it was not that bad. It didn' t feel that cold.

The SAS RAdisson Strand Hotel was super.

A very classy hotel with a big room and a super tasty breakfast every morning. We had asked for a room with a view on the water and we got it! What a view!


On fridayafternoon we walked a bit through Stockholm and visited among other things the State Library. It was a tip from a Swedish girl who had given us loads of useful tips. Thanks Karen!

The next day we visited the old town and saw the changing of the guard at the Royal Papace at 12:00. The soldiers had nice shiny helmets. There was a lot of shouting, band music and more shouting. It was fun.



Later we went by small ferry (great view on the water) to the Vasa Museum.

There we saw a 17th century old navy ship that had been dug out of the waters of Stockholm where it had sunk in 1620 after sailing 600 meters on its maiden voyage to sea.
It was really impressive to see how they had restored the ship in its old glory
The museum was actually built around the ship. I found it one of the highlights of Stockholm

The rest of the day we walked in the city and enjoyed the sights like the Library of Stockholm.

Sunday was used for another great breakfast in the hotel then we visited the old town once agian to do some shopping.
Then it was back to the hotel and back to the airport.

Stockholm was great and hopefully we come back one day to enjoy it even more!
